OUR STORY

GONDWANA was the name of the earliest supercontinent of our beloved planet Earth. It existed from 500 million to almost 1 billion years ago and was formed by the ancient tectonic plate movements of the present day continents of Arabia, Africa, South America, Antarctica, Australia and India. I had a very happy childhood growing up in Malaysia. I am of Indian discent, and the central Asia nation remains a source of pride and is close to my heart. I have always enjoyed the heat of Indian summers, so I created the Gondwana brand for all my fellow summer chasers. Living my life in swimwear and beautiful flowing  dresses, laying out by the pool, or socialising at the beach has shaped my fashion sense. So I decided to create a line of my own that is both stylish and chic, yet functional. As an avid global traveller, I’ve also found myself running into various fashion related issues on the road. I’m sure many of you have experienced similar dispair when faced with badly creased dresses caused by confined luggage space. In some destinations, finding an iron or steamer isn’t possible either.  So, I have addressed this issue with the creation of wrinkle resistant dresses. My vision for the future is a hassel free one. Imagine pulling your dress out from your luggage and immediately being able to wear it at a moments notice.  Yes, the joy and convenience of being able to head to dinner, knowing you will look like you've just left the boutique, is finally a reality.

I have also applied similar innovative design principles to the Gondwana signature tanning serum. Most of the tanning oils currently available have very generic smells, either coconuts, chocolate, or summer camp! Not the sort of bouquet you want to share with your friends at the bar or restaurant during lunch. With this in mind, we have thoughtfully created a unique custom scent for our serum. One that is chic, musky, woody, and floral, so you won't have to rush off for that inconvenient shower that is bound to make you late!

YOUR IMPACT

Sustainability is key, and at Gondwana, we believe this matters to you and to your future. It should be at the forefront of importance in the  fashion industry. We are all aware of the damage and pollution caused by the unscrupulous end of the clothing and textile business.  So, at Gondwana, we have ditched the outdated models of trendy, fast, and disposable fashion. Our hope is that a new, slower, sustainable fashion will become the  norm.

To me, slow fashion means quality pieces that you intend to keep for a lifetime. Keeping clothing in your dressing room rather than in another landfill. As such, we encourage you to swap, resell, or even giveaway pieces that are no longer in your daily choices. Thereby making it a priority for designers and fashion labels to create looks and pieces that endure. At Gondwana, we craft fashion pieces that will be a part of your core collection. Ones we hope  you will love for a lifetime.

In addition to slow fashion, we also take the well-being of our hard-working local staff and their families seriously. Gondwana pieces are made mindfully and ethically in Bali by people who are paid well and provided with many benefits such as solid health care and regular team dinners with their families.

We want you to be proud of your contribution to the well-being of the people who crafted your favourite items.
